City of Charlotte Plans and Reports
In September 2010, the city of Charlotte commissioned CDM, a private firm, to recommend a path for Charlotte to improve it's energy efficiency and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Their excellent report was entitled Charlotte's Energy Future: A Roadmap to Improve Energy Efficiency and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The closing paragraph and final recommendation in the report was this:
"This Roadmap serves as the foundation for developing a comprehensive Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Action Plan (Action Plan) that will identify short- and long-term goals for the City and the community, provide more in depth evaluation and cost-benefit analysis of potential projects, policies, and programs, and layout an implementation plan for achieving the goals on a timeline with key milestones for near-term and long-term success. We have a clear picture of where the City is now and the potential for improvement; the next step is to use the information provided within this Roadmap to move forward with development and implementation of a detailed Action Plan, which is grounded in robust analysis."
Sustain Charlotte is currently encouraging city staff and the Charlotte City Council to take this next step -- developing an action plan -- as soon as possible, as part of a comprehensive Sustainability Plan for the city, and have offered our assistance.
