DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a guided walking tour of Commonwealth\, the new mixed-use development in Plaza Midwood \nSustain Charlotte and AIA COTE are excited to partner in offering this tour! We’ll walk at a leisurely pace and stop along the way to learn more about what makes this area unique. \nHear from neighborhood residents and community planners as we discover this model redevelopment and all the things that make it a great example of sustainable urban development. We’ll highlight the dozens of design decisions that make it such an exciting example of what we need more of in Charlotte – from the street design\, the mix of uses\, to the parking and more!. \nWe’ll make a stop where you can treat yourself to an ice cream or smoothie. The tour will end in the heart of Plaza Midwood’s business district just in time for the annual Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas opening ceremony \nRegister Now! (click here)\n  \nWhen: 10:00am – 12:00pm (2 hours) on Saturday\, June 20th 2026. We invite you to come a bit early at 9:30 to enjoy complimentary hot coffee & pastry samples from Maman French Cafe PLUS free pancakes donated by Snooze. Check in at our table just inside the parking deck near Maman’s patio (directions below in “Where” section; 1711 Commonwealth Ave\, Suite 170). If you can’t come by 9:30 for complimentary treats\, be sure to arrive by 10:00 when the tour begins.  \nWhere: Park in the deck for The Rowe at Commonwealth at 1711 Commonwealth Ave. Our check-in table will be set up at the little cove in the parking deck near Maman French Cafe’s patio (see photo below). The path with the lights leads to the first floor of the parking garage\, so if you park on that level\, you can easily walk to the check-in spot. You can enter the garage on Commonwealth Ave. If you enter from Pecan St\, you will be one level higher on P2. We’ll have a QR code at the check-in so you can validate your parking. Be sure you know your vehicle’s license plate number.  \n \nOur check-in table will be set up in this little cove between the parking deck and Maman. \nCarpooling\, biking\, and walking are encouraged. Street parking will likely be very limited due to the Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas. CATS bus routes #9\, 17 and the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar serve the area. \nCost: The standard event ticket is $19 and supports Sustain Charlotte’s work. If this isn’t feasible for you — or if you’d like to donate more — we have a “Choose Your Price” option. Everyone is welcome! \nHow to prepare: Dress for the weather and your comfort. Remember a reusable water bottle\, sunscreen\, and sunglasses. All participants must sign a liability waiver. \nWe’ll provide light grab-and-go snacks and drinks at the start. \nRegister Now!
