CRTC kicks off transportation advocacy work for 2021!

More than 40 leaders of organizations and interested individuals gathered on Thursday evening for an online meeting to kick off the Charlotte Regional Transportation Coalition.

Who was there? Neighborhood leaders, non-profit organization staff, government staff and elected officials, and business leaders joined a lively conversation about how to bring together our combined expertise, passion, and experience to support a more sustainable transportation future for people in the Charlotte region.

What did we discuss? Lots! At the meeting we:

  • Introduced ourselves, our organizations, and why we’re each interested in this work.

  • Talked about our purpose as a newly formed coalition.

  • Gave a status update of our work thus far.

  • Took a detailed look at the Charlotte Moves Task Force, the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), and Charlotte’s Comprehensive Plan. Here is access to the presentation of the transportation-related plans (including clickable links) and the Vision, Mission and Principles Statements that were presented.

  • Discussed how the CRTC members can work together to advance equitable transportation investments throughout 2021.

While this kick-off meeting was our first gathering for the full membership of the coalition, a steering committee comprised of leaders from CharlotteEAST, the North End Community Coalition, and the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition has been meeting twice a month for the past year to strategize the growth of the coalition. Sustain Charlotte facilitates and convenes the coalition.

What’s next? A schedule of upcoming monthly meetings will be published soon. Interested in joining the CRTC for our monthly meetings, or just want to have a discussion to learn more? Email coalition coordinator Tarik Kiley at [email protected]. Check out the CRTC site: www.connectourregion.org.
