CATS board approves transit plan with rail service to LKN, ‘better buses’ (Cornelius Today)

The Metropolitan Transit Commission has (MTC) voted to adopt the updated Transit System Plan (TSP) that includes the prioritization of the Better Bus program, microtransit, along with rapid transit to Lake Norman.

The 30-year plan represents a major expansion of transit, including a 50 percent increase in bus service and 43 more miles of rail services.

It also hinges on the passage of a penny sales tax.

Sustain Charlotte, a non-profit that pushes for safer streets, said the plan is a win-win for “every corner of our community.”

Quotable

“It brings immediate improvements for today’s riders while preparing us for the demands of tomorrow. It’s a plan that listens to the public, reflects our shared values, and gives all Mecklenburg County residents better, safer, and more affordable ways to get around,” said Shannon Binns, executive director.
