Cyclist critically hurt on I-85 ramp in University City before dawn (Hoodline)
According to the City of Charlotte’s FY2025 Vision Zero report cited by Sustain Charlotte, total traffic crash volume has fallen even as fatalities rose 9% to 81 deaths and severe injuries climbed 13% to 111. The Charlotte Ledger separately found that total annual vehicle crashes dropped 30.8%, from a peak of 37,877 in 2022 to 26,225 in 2025.
But that overall decline hasn’t protected the most vulnerable road users.
