Sustain Charlotte is committed to helping build a safer, healthier, more sustainable community for all.

This year, we will continue tirelessly advocating for solutions that reduce our impact on the climateadvance racial equityconnect communities, and support residents’ health and access to opportunities – and we’re committed to making it easy for you to do so, too.

What changes would make the biggest difference for improving quality of life in the Charlotte area? As we look forward to all the potential that 2024 holds, we’re excited to share this list of eight things that we will be fighting for with you. Achieving each of these will require coordination and commitment from elected officials, government staff, developers and the private sector, community organizations, and advocates — including YOU!

Throughout the year, we’ll organize advocacy efforts, hold inspiring events, and provide thoughtful and informative educational resources to help you engage on these issues.

Here are eight things we’ll fight for in 2024:

  • Fair and consistent application of Charlotte’s new development rules in support of a healthy, walkable, equitable, and climate-friendly city
  • Progress toward a safe and connected all-ages-and-abilities bicycle network
  • Prioritization of safety above all other factors in the design and re-design of Charlotte’s streets
  • Progress toward a connected network of countywide parks, greenways, nature preserves, and recreational facilities within a 10-minute walk of all residents
  • An end to parking minimums citywide
  • Progress toward a fast, frequent, reliable, and walkable public transit network with high-quality stops and mobility hubs to connect with other forms of transportation
  • Accelerated progress toward achieving climate goals in the city’s Strategic Energy Action Plan
  • Increased tree canopy to support climate resilience, walking and biking, and healthy air

We strongly believe these are all things that will help build a safer, healthier, more sustainable community for all. And with your help, we can achieve them!
