Voters Approve Historic Transportation Investment

CHARLOTTE – Tonight, Mecklenburg County voters chose a future with more connection, opportunity, and mobility for everyone. The passage of the transportation referendum marks a transformative moment — one that will shape how our region grows and moves for generations.

This investment will expand light rail, improve bus service, build safer sidewalks and bike routes, reduce congestion, and create a healthier, more accessible community for all.

For years, residents, advocates, and community leaders have worked together to imagine a more connected and equitable future. Tonight, we move toward that vision.

“Tonight, our community chose progress,” said Sustain Charlotte Founder and Executive Director Shannon Binns. “By voting yes, residents affirmed that everyone deserves safe, affordable, and reliable ways to get around no matter where they live or how they travel.

This is a win for working families, for public health, for clean air, and for our economic future. We celebrate tonight – and tomorrow, we begin the work to deliver on this promise together.”

Sustain Charlotte will continue collaborating with residents, community partners, and local leaders to ensure this investment strengthens mobility, equity, and quality of life across our region.
