Communities come together for National Night Out

We are so thrilled to have been able to participate in two events for the 2019 National Night Out initiative, which encourages communities to come together to reduce crime by hosting neighborhood events and keeping their porch lights on later than normal.

Through our Sustainable Neighborhood Program, we’ve built relationships with neighborhoods all around Charlotte. Currently through that program we’re partnering with the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition and the North End Community Coalition. In West Boulevard, we’re working together with residents to address pedestrian safety along busy roads, so that all community members can safely get to where they need to go. And in North End, we’re working together with neighborhoods to reconnect and activate green spaces so that children can safely play and residents have spaces to walk and bike.

During National Night Out, our team was able to be at events hosted by both neighborhoods, and talk to attendees about the work we’re doing. At the West Boulevard event we even hosted a greenway walk, featuring new educational signage designed by our summer intern Jaire Clarida. Check out all the fun in the pictures below!

At the North End event, residents gathered for food and fun at a community park in Druid Hills where we hope to install traffic-calming measures to improve safety.
