City bonds are a win!

It’s been a long and contentious election season. We hear you on that! But when you go to the polls, please keep your energy up until the very end and pay close attention to the bottom of your ballot. There you’ll find a bond referendum that will shape the future of Charlotte.

Sustain Charlotte’s vision is for “a region in which everyone has the knowledge, resources and opportunity to make choices with a clear awareness of their combined social, economic and environmental impacts.” We invite you to empower yourself with the knowledge of what the proposed bond includes, and then go take advantage of your opportunity to vote!

Voter approval of the bond would mean funding for:

Transportation: $148.44 Million for a variety of transportation projects, many of which will create a better experience for people on foot and bicycles, including:

  • $60 Million in pedestrian safety efforts
  • Street improvements in the East/Southeast and Northeast Corridors
  • Advancement of the Cross Charlotte Trail
  • A South End Pedestrian/Bicycle Connector (walk or bike from the Rail Trail to the Publix shopping area!)
  • Upgrades to traffic signals
  • Bridge repairs

Neighborhoods: $55 Million to improve infrastructure in high-growth and distressed neighborhoods, improve neighborhood connectivity, and support public/private redevelopment opportunities.

Housing: $15 Million to support private investment in development of housing for low to moderate income individuals and families.

The financing costs for the bond is already included in the city’s budget for this year. So whether you vote early or on November 8, show the bottom of your ballot some love!
