Solar power and bike commuting featured at April mixer

Where can you meet like-minded people who care about sustainability, hear from businesses that support sustainability, and enjoy some great beer? At our Sustain Charlotte monthly mixers! Our members and followers gathered Tuesday evening at Heist Brewing to network and hear from two speakers.

Attendees enjoyed stimulating conversation and meeting new friends.

Tom Foley, Business Development Manager at Hannah Solar kicked off his presentation with a renewable energy joke about a nun and a winning race horse (ask him about it if you weren’t there!) and told us about one of Hannah Solar’s proudest recent accomplishments. They’ve been selected by North Carolina’s Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) to build 25 additional separate 100 kilowatt projects this year!

According to Tom, education is the key to expanding solar in North Carolina. He said, “I’m on the front lines and I can see first hand. The core issue here is education. Educating the public on the many benefits renewable energies provide. Continuing to speak to our representatives and schools about the value of making positive changes now, today!”

Hannah Solar is a Gold Sponsor of our 2015 Sustain Charlotte Awards + Earth Day Celebration and a Silver Partner of Sustain Charlotte. They are a full service, certified solar integrator dedicated to providing the very best in engineering, products, installation and servicing of solar arrays, EV charging stations, critical backup generators and LED lighting. We’re grateful for their ongoing support and excited by what they’re doing to expand solar power throughout the South!

Tom Foley shared information about how Hannah Solar is helping to lead the solar revolution in NC.

Dianna Ward, Executive Director of Charlotte B-cycle spoke about the founding of the city’s incredible bike share program. She told us that interest from developers to add B-cycle stations to their properties is incredibly high. Dianna leads the new Free Wheelin’ Fridays bike commute that is about to launch this May. This initiative is designed to address all of your objections/uncertainties/fears about commuting into Uptown by bike. And it’s going to be FUN and social! Several routes will depart from locations around Uptown and guidance will be provided by route leaders. Sustain Charlotte is proud to be a part of the organizing team for Free Wheelin’ Fridays. “Like” the Facebook page and join us for the rides!
