The Around the Crown10k is a race whose values run in stride with those of Sustain Charlotte!
Years ago, when Around the Crown founders first asked “Can I run faster than traffic on I-77?!”, we knew they were committed to making a positive impact and reframing the way we get around Charlotte without driving. This way of thinking big about changes we want to see for a more sustainable future has led Around the Crown to become a leading race here in our Queen City.

Sustain Charlotte admires Around the Crown’s interest in encouraging individuals of all ages, cultural backgrounds, genders, paces, and experiences to participate in a healthy and active lifestyle. This commitment to inclusivity aligns perfectly with Sustain Charlotte’s mission of inspiring choices that lead to a healthy, equitable, and vibrant community for generations to come.
We are also impressed by Around The Crown’s commitment to sustainability. By working with sponsors like Recover Brands to create 100% recycled apparel and raising money for local beneficiaries such as Carolina Farm Trust, they are actively contributing to making Charlotte a better place for all. Our organization is proud to be a part of such a sustainablity-minded and community-focused event.
Get on the Greenway – or join the Green Team!
Of course, one of our greatest joys is seeing the greenways and safe pedestrian infrastructure that we work so hard to get built being used by the folks who use them on a daily basis – particularly training for the big race! Greenways, and the efforts that go into maintaining them, is a big part of ensuring that areas around Charlotte are walkable and enjoyable for everyone. Greenways offer a safer alternative to runners than running along busy roads, and they are so important to connecting communities and providing more convenient and equitable options for getting around Charlotte.
One of our current initiatives is rallying the community to advocate for park and greenway funding in the county’s next budget. If green space is important to you, sign our petition today!
