Our next Sustain Charlotte Social will be held on Thursday, July 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Suffolk Punch (2911 Griffith St.).
Charlotte is renowned for its urban tree canopy, but our trees do a lot more than just make the city beautiful! Join us for an evening all about the City of Trees and how our canopy and urban heat are related. Our speakers will share some practical ways for you to support trees and keep our city cool as the climate crisis intensifies.
The evening will start with 30 minutes of networking and light fare. At 6:30 we will start our programming with a quick introduction from Sustain Charlotte before hearing from Dr. Katherine Idziorek, a UNCC Geography professor, about her team’s research on Charlotte’s urban heat and an ongoing community science project. We will then switch gears to learn about the City’s urban canopy goals from Tree Canopy Programs Manager, Tara Moore. A 20-minute guided panel with the speakers and a staff member of TreesCharlotte will follow the presentations.
After the panel, we will have a short Q&A with the audience, and we encourage attendees to continue the conversation with our panelists once the formal Q&A is complete. The evening will wrap up with more networking. Light fare will be provided and drinks will be available for purchase from the venue.
