Sustain Charlotte seeks a full-time bicycle program manager

Position Summary

Sustain Charlotte is looking for an energetic Bicycle Program Manager with a passion and talent for fostering collaboration to accomplish shared goals. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Bicycle Program Manager will develop and manage a two-year initiative to build relationships and foster collaboration among the various organizations who offer cycling events and programs in the Charlotte area, assist with publicizing these activities, and establish Sustain Charlotte as the hub organization for information related to cycling. The Bicycle Program Manager will also assist in securing funding via grants and membership to support these activities beyond the initial two-year period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively share local cycling news and events on social media, in newsletters, via website, and in targeted outreach to community stakeholders.
  • Create a Cycling Advisory Group comprised of cyclists and non-cyclists to inform work and consult/convene as needed.
  • Convene and lead regular meetings of organizations who offer cycling events and programs to facilitate greater collaboration and information sharing.
  • Document cycling events and programs offered in the community and how many attend, identify gaps, and determine whether Sustain Charlotte or another organization is best suited to fill gaps.
  • Attend community events and meetings related to cycling and summarize them via blog posts, and/or ask organizer to submit summary for our blog.
  • Attend local government meetings when policies and plans affecting cycling are on the agenda and share what is discussed/decided with the public to inform them.
  • Build relationships with organizations that promote cycling outside of the Charlotte area and assess the feasibility/need for their programs/events in Charlotte area.
  • Assist with identification of grant opportunities and grant writing.
  • Develop membership program, recruit members – both individuals and organizations – and cultivate relationships with them.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic about bicycling as a form of transportation and recreation.
  • Experience in partnership building and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills in project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confident and persuasive public speaker.
  • Experience managing and motivating volunteers.
  • Proficient in the use of social media.
  • Detail oriented self-starter who can work well independently and with teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and ability to make basic website content changes.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in non-profit management, education, outreach, or similar field.

Compensation

Base salary is $35,000 – $45,000 depending upon experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance stipend, retirement benefits, reimbursement for monthly expenses, and knowing that you are helping make a positive difference in the Greater Charlotte area on a daily basis.
