As a volunteer with Sustain Charlotte, you can support our community by advocating for more sidewalks, bike lanes, transit, parks, greenways, trees, and diverse neighborhoods with housing for all.
At Sustain Charlotte, we spearhead initiatives in transportation, accessibility, and sustainability. We strive to promote and defend the integrity of Charlotte’s communities, provide a voice for societal issues, and help solve the diverse transportation, housing, and land-use challenges the Charlotte region faces today. Our volunteers and ambassadors help shape the future we all want to see.
Become a Sustain Charlotte Ambassador
Do you believe strongly in a future that is more healthy, vibrant, and equitable for our community? You are invited to join us for our quarterly ambassador training experience that walks individuals through our mission and dives into the impacts of what smart growth, land use, and transportation choices are taking place in our community today.
At the end of the training, ambassadors come away with a certificate, a firm foundation of knowledge, and the confidence necessary to represent Sustain Charlotte at community events. Ambassadors are expected to volunteer with us 3-4 times per year. We need our ambassadors the most in the spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) when the majority of our community events take place.
Keep a lookout for our next training session on our events page!
Volunteer at our signature events!
Help serve our community at our two biggest events of the year.
Sustain Charlotte Awards - In honor of Earth Day, each April we hold a large gala celebrating sustainability leaders who are doing impressive work in our community. We typically need 10-12 volunteers to help us check-in attendees, manage the raffle, and ensure the evening runs smoothly. All volunteers get free admission for the event!
Biketoberfest - In October, we host an urban adventure to help engage our community in what it could feel like to get around Charlotte without driving! This walkable, bikeable scavenger hunt starts and ends in South End and involves visiting several small businesses and neighborhoods on the way. This event brings out 600+ people, and that means we need an army of volunteers to keep everything on track. It’s a beautiful day to celebrate a car-free lifestyle and our inspiring community!
