Meet the intern: Emma Gatrell
Hello! My name is Emma Gatrell. I am a Charlotte native who recently graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. While attending Washington and Lee, I majored in Sociology and Politics and minored in Studio Art. I was also was a member of the field hockey team. Go Gennies!
This summer, I spent my free time learning about ways to mitigate urban sprawl and implement sustainable design elements in cities. While I have enjoyed learning about these issues and potential solutions, I wanted to make a tangible difference in my community. Working with Sustain Charlotte will allow me to grow my program planning skills and engage more deeply in the community.
Throughout the fall, I will be assisting with events, like Biketoberfest and Impact 704 Academy, creating social media content and digital media, and partnering with the development team to engage donors. I am excited to take part in Sustain Charlotte’s volunteer events and to learn more about local sustainability efforts here in Charlotte! I hope to apply the knowledge I have gained from this internship to a career in urban design or landscape architecture.
