Memo reveals Charlotte economic development director’s big concerns with 2040 plan (Charlotte Business Journal)

Charlotte Business Journal’s Ashley Fahey reported on two of Charlotte’s top-ranked staff members recently exchanging detailed notes about outstanding concerns over the 2040 comprehensive plan.

Several groups have come out in support of the original plan as well as the revised version. Among them is Sustain Charlotte, a nonprofit that advocates for policies related to infrastructure, growth, environment and other measures.

Shannon Binns, Sustain Charlotte’s founder and executive director, said Tuesday beyond some technical comments the group plans to submit later this week, Sustain Charlotte supports the plan’s passage. Currently, Charlotte City Council is scheduled to vote on the plan at its June 21 meeting.

“This is the plan Charlotte has needed for decades,” Binns said. “The current opposition, to me, reflects how long the status quo has been in place. If anything, it should be an eye-opener that this plan is desperately needed.”
